Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho, has explained why he decided against taking the job in 2013, after Sir Alex Ferguson stepped down.

When the legendary Red Devils manager announced his retirement that year, Mourinho was one of the names linked as a possible replacement.

However, when he left Real Madrid, the Portugues chose to return to his former club, Chelsea, after Roberto Di Matteo was sacked.

David Moyes was eventually appointed United manager.

When asked if he considered taking over at Old Trafford, Mourinho replied: “Not really, not really, I was in another club.

“When I am in a club I just think about the club and I don’t lose my time thinking about other things so not really.

“What I knew was the evolution of the Premier League, I knew the direction of the Premier League, and I knew that periods of domination belong to the past because the PL was already going in an incredible direction and it is what it is now.”
