The Senior Special Assistant, SSA, to President Muhammadu Buhari on National Assembly Matters, Senator Ita Enang has given reasons why he opted not to respond to enquiries made by journalists as regards the controversies that trailed the 2016 budget presented to the National Assembly by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Addressing newsmen yesterday in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom state capital, he apologised to Nigerian journalists for not responding to most questions posed to him, explaining that his role at that time could be likened to the role of a diplomat who should balance and weigh options before taking certain action that affects both his home country and the country he is posted to.
It would be recalled that shortly after the budget was reported missing, the Senate raised a committee which accused the former lawmaker of changing the contents of the 2016 appropriation bill before making the document available to the lawmakers.
But reacting to this, Enang said: “I could not have said anything then because it was the prerogative of Mr. President to make such comment or comments on the issue as my boss and he has done so and I am happy that the budget has been passed.”
