Why I left Barcelona for Manchester City – Bravo

New Manchester City goalkeeper, Claudio Bravo, has revealed that he left Barcelona this summer, because he lost his starting place at the Nou Camp.

The 33-year-old Chilean signed for City in a £17.1m deal and has become Pep Guardiola’s first choice.

Bravo was Barcelona’s keeper in La Liga for the past two seasons, while Marc-Andre ter Stegen features in the cup competitions.

He began this season in the team, but when Ter Stegen returned from injury, Enrique informed him he would drop to the bench.

Although Bravo was offered a new contract, he turned it down and decided to leave.

“It was not me that was [first] at Barca, it was Ter Stegen,” Bravo told Cadena SER.

“The club made me an offer to renew but, seeing their plans, I also made them understand my position.

“I was very sincere; I did not want to sit on the bench. It’s not my thing. And they understood. In Barcelona I always devoted myself to doing my best, I always felt the support.”

Bravo also dismissed reports that there was a break down in his relationship with Barcelona by the time he left.

“What appeared in the press – that we had a bad relationship and things were uncomfortable at the end – was not true,” he added.

“It was never a problem, indeed, we both always benefitted from the competition.”
