Former Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, has disclosed the reason behind his decision to dump the Labour Party, LP, for Zenith Labour Party, ZLP.
Defending his action in his country home of Ondo, while addressing his supporters on the development on Saturday, Mimiko stated that his decision to leave LP, which he rejoined some months back, was due to the leadership crisis rocking the party.
According to him, the crisis was orchestrated by the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Adams Oshiomhole.
Mimiko maintained that the leadership of the LP has been hijacked by Oshiomhole, using the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, through its leadership to frustrate his ambition on the LP platform.
Also, the spokesperson to the presidential aspirant, Mr. Eni Akinsola, stated that the NLC and a factional chairman of the party, Mike Omotosho were being used to disrupt the party.
“Mimiko has left the Labour Party, before he finally moved, he consulted with all his political structures across the state, and he updated them with fact, with what has been happening since he went to LP.
“On the day he declared for presidency, the NLC chairman said he was not wanted, one Omotosho claiming to be factional chairman of the Labour Party too claimed he was not welcomed.
“Like they say, once beaten, twice shy.
“The issue now is that Mimiko is not ready to expose himself and his followers to such kind of things again. This same Omotosho went to Ilorin, Kwara state and promised to deliver 16 million votes to Buhari,” he stated.
