Why Giggs was missing in Manchester United’s win over Stoke

Manchester United assistant manager, Ryan Giggs, was missing on the bench as they beat Stoke City 3-0 at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.

Jesse Lingard, Anthony Martial and Wayne Rooney scored for the Red Devils, as they put in an impressive performance against Mark Hughes’ men.

It has now emerged that Giggs did not take his seat next to under-pressure boss, Louis van Gaal, because of a family illness. The United legend was granted leave by Van Gaal, who was assisted by his compatriots Frans Hoek and Albert Stuivenberg during the match.

Giggs is still widely considered the favourite to replace the Dutchman on a temporary basis, if he leaves before the end of the season.
