Why FG finally allowed legal team meet with Zakzaky – Shi’ites

The Federal Government has finally allowed the legal team of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, IMN otherwise known as Shi’ite Muslims to meet with the sect’s detained leader, Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky.

Disclosing that its legal team headed by Mr. Femi Falana SAN met with Zakzaky last Friday, IMN claimed that the sect’s refusal to participate in “their staged-managed kangaroo Judicial Commission of Inquiry” forced the Nigerian government to eventually permit the meeting.

It noted that the team that met with Zakzaky comprised the senior advocate, Barristers Maxwell Nkiyom, Kabir Muhammad and an IMN member, Sheikh AbdulRahman Abubakar Yola. The team held consultation with Sheikh Zakzaky and his sister, Zeenat Ibraheem for about an hour.

PM News quotes the Free Zakzaky Campaign Committee official, Harun Elbinawy as saying:

“Sheikh Zakzaky and his wife, Zeenat Ibraheem are recovering from the multiple injuries that they suffered following the brutal attacks of the Nigerian Army. They underwent multiple surgical operations and there are more operations to be done especially to the left eye of Sheikh Zakzaky.

“Harun Elbinawy said Sheikh Zakzaky gave them a firsthand information of what happened especially the events of Monday morning (14th/12/2015) after the Nigerian Army had killed hundreds of members – both male and female- of IMN in the residence of Sheikh Zakzaky and burnt the house.

The group added that: “The Nigerian Army burnt the house with Sheikh Zakzaky and his family in the house, they intended to burn them to death. Due to the hotness of the flame the two boilers in the bathrooms melted and that was where Sheikh Zakzaky and his family spent the night with the protection of God and they totaled twelve (12).

“Then on Monday morning a spy that was planted in the house brought the Nigerian Army to the house and showed them the section where Sheikh Zakzaky and his family took refuge. The moment the Nigerian Army arrived they opened fire on the group of 12, the 3 sons of Sheikh Zakzaky, Humaid, Hammad and Ali Haider (who was a living Martyr after suffering mortal injury in the 2014 Nigerian Army attacks where his three brothers were brutally killed) were brutally killed execution – style on the spot.”
