Why Buhari met with Service Chiefs before leaving for 10-day vacation

President Muhammadu Buhari, Thursday, held a closed-door meeting his with service chiefs at the presidential wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport, before he proceeded on his 10-day vacation.‎

This was confirmed via his official Twitter handle.

“Before leaving, I met with the Security Chiefs. We will continue to work to fulfill our promise to confront all security challenges head-on,” read the update.

After the meeting, the Chief of Defence Staff, Abayomi Olanishakin, spoke to journalists and revealed that the meeting was held to give Buhari an update on the movement of a stand-by troop to The Gambia.

Buhari has been acting as mediator in the political crisis engulfing the West African country.

The briefing lasted for one hour.

Before he stepped onto the presidential jet, Buhari made it clear there was nothing wrong with going on vacation.

He is expected to resume work on February 6, 2017.

Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, will act in his capacity for the period.
