The Bayelsa State government has said Wednesday’s stalemate in the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC) meeting in Abuja may delay payment of its workers’ salaries this month.
The state Commissioner for Finance, Maxwell Ebibai, in a statement, on Thursday, said the “inability of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation to present accurate figures of revenue collected for the month to the Committee”.
“The meeting could not hold because of observed discrepancies in the figures presented by the NNPC to FAAC. The inability of the NNPC to present accurate and agreeable returns to FAAC was responsible for the lingering delay in holding the June FAAC meeting,” the commissioner said.
The commissioner called on the citizens to show understanding in the event of any delay in salary payment.
He said government had always given priority to the prompt payment of salaries to its workers.
