Why Bauchi state has become second home to IDPs – Gov. Abubakar

The Bauchi state Governor, Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar has observed that insurgency and ethno-religious conflicts happening elsewhere in the North-East have led to the state becoming a second home to many internally displaced persons, IDPs.

He explained that the IDPs being referred to were those who fled their homes in some troubled states in the North-East.

The governor made this disclosure on Thursday in Bauchi during Peace Club interactive forum organised for selected secondary schools in the state.

“Our peaceful state has made us enjoying multiple approaches to peace resolutions, and that is why the state has become second home to many IDPs,” he said.

The governor stressed that the event is timely, and is on the urgent need to disabuse students’ mind with respect to conflicts and religious intolerance that bring about insecurity.

“It’s only when there is peace that we can develop and make progress and peace building is an essential commodity,” he added.

Abubakar maintained that it is imperative for people of the state to cultivate the habit of tolerance, cohesion and respect for one another, so as to live in peace.
