It has emerged that Arsenal could still walk away from a deal, that has taken Kelechi Nwakali and Samuel Chukwueze to The Emirates, if they are not impressed with the Nigerian starlets, by the time they turn 18 and are ready to sign a professional contract.
Nwakali was named the MVP for last year’s FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile, while Chukwueze was one of the tournament’s top scorers, as Nigeria won record fourth U-17 World Cup.
Arsenal have however chosen to make ‘minimal investment’ on Nwakali who turns 18 on June 5 and Chukwueze who clocks 18 in May 2017.
“Arsenal have only made an initial investment of about 10% on both players and have insisted they will only finalise a contract with them when they are 18 and have received their international papers,” a source close to the players told AfricanFootball.com
“It’s a huge risk the players’ academy in Nigeria is now taking because should it all go wrong, Arsenal have nothing to lose if they walked away.”
