Why Abia is underdeveloped despite endowed resources – Alex Otti

Alex Otti, a chieftain of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Abia state, Wednesday, said that Abia was unlucky in terms of governance, because of the paucity of ideas by people steering the affairs of the state.

Otti, who dismissed the notion that Abia was the poorest state in South-East zone, stated that present and successive government had failed to capitalize on the endowed resources of the state to provide infrastructural amenities to the people.

The APGA chieftain stated this during an interaction with newsmen in Isiala Ngwa south local government area of Abia state.

According to the governorship hopeful, “Abia is not the poorest state. But unfortunately in term of infrastructure, in term of everything, Abia is the last in the South-East and South-South zone.

“We believe that the problem is the vision, the problem is capacity. Because, you can have all the money in the world, but if you don’t know what to do with the money, you will remain poor.

“So, because of paucity of ideas, experiences and paucity of the right people, I believe that is why Abia is where it is now today.”

He added that the current situation in Abia, occasioned by what he termed as PDP misrule, needed a kind of revolution to enable people enthrone the desired change in the state come 2019.

Otti continued, “I can talk about people who we have given leadership in the state. And they started, first from 1999. We got it wrong in 1999. And they have not been able to perform.

“So, it requires something that look like a revolution. I believe that this is a time for us to make a change from the past, and start afresh.”
