Whistle blowers Bill will protect Nigeria citizens – Senator Olujimi

The Senator representing Ekiti South Senatorial District, Biodun Olujimi, has explained that whistle blowers’ bill which is being debated at the Senate would protect Nigerians and shield informants of useful information from maltreatment by security agents.

Speaking with DAILY POST in Abuja, Biodun regretted that people hoard information on crimes perpetrated around their environment due to lack of confidence on security agents, particularly the Police, a situation she said made criminals to escape justice.

She, however, cautioned that the would-be informants must get their data correct before approaching security agencies as the law would also punish them for falsehood.

“What we are saying about Whistle blowers is that people who come forward to give information on crimes must be protected and there is no skepticism about the bill anywhere because there is punishment for anybody who blows on wrong information,” she said.

Olujimi maintained that the National Assembly will look at the laws concerning security agencies and strengthen them in order to fight against crimes, including corruption and terrorism.

Lamenting the cases of rape and killings of innocent citizens, she said, the nation must ensure evil doers are punished, stressing that such misdeeds would not be allowed anymore.

“In cases of rape and killing for no just cause, people will be able to bring information and know that they are protected for doing that,” she noted.

According to her, the law will encourage a whistle blower to Prosecute security agents for leaking the source of information and for not acting on information given, which she explained will stem the tide of sabotage that has been the practice in security circles.
