The Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party, on Tuesday beat his chest, saying that indeed, the PDP knows how best to handle elections into public office.
He delivered the assertion weeks after PDP National Chairman, Bamanga Tukur, reacted to the coalition of opposition parties, saying “Tell them, we will dribble them like Messi (Argentine soccer star) when the time comes.”
Anenih further stated that whether anyone likes it or not, the Ogun State chapter of the party remains under the leadership of former President, Olusegun Obasanjo.
Anenih made this declaration after a closed-door meeting on Monday with Obasanjo in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
DailyPost can authoritatively report that the aim of the parley, among other things, was to settle certain disputes between Obasanjo and President Goodluck Jonathan.
Briefing newsmen afterwards, the BoT Chair stressed that without Obasanjo in charge of affairs, the PDP in Ogun would be weak.
Apparently reacting to a statement by Ogun State Governor, Ibikiunle Amosun, who said that Ogun PDP is dead, the former Works Minister noted that anyone with such impression was wrong, as his party remains the one to beat.
In his words: “Let me tell you, almost all of us here are members of PDP in Ogun. So you cannot say that PDP is dead in Ogun State.
“Leader of PDP is here, former president. When the time comes, PDP is a party to beat. When the time comes, I assure we will do what we know how to do best,.”
Anenih, who was in Abeokuta with seven other BOT members of the party, said they came to discuss issues relating to the party and Nigeria with Obasanjo.
He said: “I am here to see my leader. I am here to pay my respect and indeed I am here with my colleagues, some members of the Board of Trustees of our party, to discuss some issues that affect the corporate existence of this country.
“Some issues about the insecurity of the country and some issues about the party itself.”
Anenih described the outcome of the meeting as successful.
“As you can see, we are all smiling. Don’t you see me smiling? he asked.
“My leader (Obasanjo) too is smiling. So we are quite happy about the outcome which is not for public consumption.”
