What will happen to Liverpool in next season’s Champions League after losing to Real Madrid

Liverpool face a nightmare draw in next season’s Champions League, following their final defeat to Real Madrid last Saturday.

Jurgen Klopp’s men have provisionally been placed in Pot Three for the group stage draw of the 2018/19 competition.

They would have been put in Pot One if they had beaten Real.

It means that in the worst case scenario, Liverpool could face Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund and Inter Milan in a group of death.

Had they won the Champions League, they could have been given a more generous draw, potentially against Basel, Ludogorets and Celtic.

Real Madrid instead take the Pot One spot, which is reserved for the winner of the Champions League.

Atletico Madrid are also in Pot One, after winning the Europa League.

Barcelona sit in Pot One as La Liga winners, along with Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain and Lokomotiv Moscow, the champions of their respective leagues.
