The newly-elected President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, has assured that the National Assembly will have a good working relationship with the executive arm of government.
He spoke Tuesday night after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Lawan polled 79 votes to defeat his only contender, Sen. Ali Ndume, who polled 28 votes.
Lawan said: “We’ve come to thank Mr. President for the fatherly role he played in the contest we just had. This is the way to show respect for our leaders and our elders.
“The visit is to assure him that we will unite ourselves in the national assembly; and that we will provide necessary and critical legislative intervention needed for his administration to succeed.
“We are looking to a very decent, cooperative, cordial and collaborative relationship with the executive arm of government.
“We are happy that the outcome has favoured us the way it has. We want to assure everyone that we are totally to making Nigeria better.”
On Lawan’s entourage were: his deputy, Senator Omo Agege, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, Senator Jubrin Barau, among others.
