Head coach of the Super Eagles, Gernot Rohr, has revealed that he gave assurances to Ahmed Musa over his place in the national team, before the winger sealed a move to Saudi Arabian Professional League club, Al Nassr.

Musa starred for Nigeria at the 2018 World Cup, scoring a brilliant brace as Rohr’s men defeated Iceland 2-0 in their second group game.

However, despite his impressive showing at the tournament, the former CSKA Moscow of Russia star left English Premier League club, Leicester City for Saudi Arabia, in search of regular football.

“Ahmed sought my consent before he moved to Saudi Arabia. He asked me if it is possible for him to still play for the national team if he moves to Saudi Arabia, and I told him no problem,” Rohr told reporters on Friday, during the unveiling ceremony of his squad for upcoming 2019 Africa Cup of Nations clash qualifiers.

“At Leicester City, he was not playing regularly which was a big issue for him ahead of the World Cup, which was the reason why he had to secure a loan move back to CSKA Moscow.

“So, I don’t have any problem with him playing in Saudi Arabia. So far he plays regularly there.”

Musa was among of the 24 players named by Rohr on Friday for the game against Seychelles.
