What NYSC members posted to Enugu must do – Gov. Ugwuanyi

Gov Ifeanyi Ugwuani of Enugu State, on Tuesday, said National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, members posted to the State should strike to make impact in discharging sensitive and challenging responsibilities in both rural and urban communities.

This is as he described the scheme as a veritable platform for young Nigerians to contribute significantly to nation building.

Governor Ugwuanyi stated this during the Passing Out Parade of the 2019 Batch A Corps members held at the Agwu Orientation Camp in Enugu State.

Ugwuanyi, who was represented by his Special Adviser on Special Duties, Hon Uwakwe Azikiwe, noted that young Nigerians as the future mangers of the nation should be interested in efforts made by government to improve the fortunes of the nation.

“You are to be assigned sensitive and challenging responsibilities in both rural and urban communities and in various spheres of life which will require you to prove your worth.

“You can only do that by translating the training and knowledge you have acquired into concrete achievements for posterity. Your participation in the NYSC Scheme provides you the unique opportunity to contribute distinctively to the task of nation building.

“Remember, as future managers of the nation, you are expected to be interested and involved in the effort of Government to improve the fortunes of the country and redirect it to the part of sustainable economic growth and development.

“You should, therefore, strive to imprint your names in gold in the annals of history by rendering quality service to your host communities especially in the area of community development service,” he said.

The Governor also advised Corps members against incessant and frivolous journeys noting that, “many Corps members have met their untimely deaths as a result of their involvement in fatal accidents in the course of unnecessary journeys”.

“You should therefore avoid embarking on frequent travels except when it is absolutely required and approved, to minimize the risk of traffic accidents and resultant loss and agony to your parents and indeed the entire nation,” he said.

In an address, the Coordinator of the scheme in the state, Alhaji Ahmed Wada Ikaka commended the Corps members for their discipline, high sense of maturity and responsibily. He further thanked the Enugu state government for its support to the scheme.

“Your Excellency, the success we recorded can be attributed largely to the good disposition of the Corps members who were disciplined in their conduct and amenable to training. They exhibited a high sense of responsibility and maturity throughout the orientation course.

“I wish to state that the smooth operation of NYSC Scheme in Enugu State cannot be possible without the assistance of the Enugu State government. I therefore thank in a special way, the Governor of Enugu State for his unquantifiable support to the NYSC Scheme,” he stated.
