What Nigerian youths should do ahead of 2019 – CLTC Boss, Bawa

As the 2019 general elections draw nearer, the Director-General of Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre (CLTC), Mr. Jonah Bawa, has advised Nigerian youths to brace up to the challenges ahead of them.

He said that they must use the opportunity and prove that the confidence reposed in them by political leaders is not misplaced.

Recall that in July, the Nigerian Senate passed the ‘Not Too Young To Run’ Bill which means Nigerian youths can contest for President at the age of 35 and Governor or Senators at the age of 30. It also represents a change from the initial 40 and 35 years limit respectively, which was hitherto mandated by the 1990 constitution.

Speaking in Abuja while briefing journalists, Bawa urged Nigerian youths to strongly resist any attempt by disgruntled elements to use them to cause chaos and insecurity ahead of 2019.

He said: “I frankly advise Nigerian youths to take up this golden opportunity and prove that the confidence reposed in them by our dear leaders is not misplaced.

“They must brace up to the challenges ahead of them. Shun all negative vices and strongly resist any attempt by some disgruntled elements to use them to cause chaos and insecurity which portray Nigeria and Nigerians in bad light.

“Above all, I urge them to undertake a most significant task in the life of every successful individual. That is, self-evaluation, self-discovery and charting a course for self-actualisation.

The CLTC boss further advocated for the mental empowerment of the youths to ensure that the efforts put in their education and inclusion as lead participants in the economy and governance of the country yield desired results.

“I call on all stakeholders to put our hands on deck and ensure that every average youth has unbridled access to a dependable platform for mental empowerment. This constitutes the fundamental bedrock for the success of any kind of endeavour in the life of every individual.

“Indeed, it is only after instilling in the youths the right mindset that all the potentials inherent in their demography can be harnessed,” he said.
