What Monarch, others did to cultists in Delta community

Piqued by the alleged continued killings of persons by various cult groups operating in the area, the traditional ruler of Okpanam, Ugoani Michael Mbanefo Ogbolu on Thursday with his Council of Chiefs, rained curses on the perpetrators in an operation which lasted close to two hours.

Armed with traditional white chalks, cowries, and other frightening materials, the Royal Father and his chiefs matched around various streets in the community, chanting war songs in traditional drum beats before they retired to the play ground where they poured libation with Aromatic hot drinks.

In the past two years, Okpanam community had been under siege of cult related activities with a number of persons allegedly killed during their rival groups’ fight.

But the monarch who spoke to DAILY POST cautioned that the community could no longer tolerate such acts of criminal intimidation and killing of persons by cult groups, adding that the attacks by cultists on innocent citizens of Okpanam community ”has to stop, we have just finished the traditional aspect of raining curses on the cultists, the next steps would be identifying them and banishing them from the community.”

Noting with determination that the entire members of Ugoani In-Council would work in concert with the security agencies to ensure nobody indulges in the act again, the monarch, however, decried the situation where innocent citizens residing in the community are not allowed to exercise their freedom of movement for inexplicable reasons, warning that he will do everything possible to protect the lives innocent persons and their property.

He said; “I want to command the police, especially the Anti Cult Unit for their efforts in checkmating the nefarious activities of these cultists, hoodlums in our community, but plead that the law enforcement agencies should continue to do more, we have not been having it so good here because of cultists, we are moved to put an end”, and lamented the situation where some highly placed people in the community allegedly sponsor activities of cultists thereby breaching the law and order in the community.

Investigation has revealed that Cult-Miscreants are allegedly aided by few disgruntled elders who tried to Lord themselves over the entire Okpanam community.
