What leaders must urgently do about Nigeria – Saraki

Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, has urged Nigerian leaders to urgently step out of the normal leadership sphere and make extraordinary impact on Nigerians by adopting more impactful leadership strategies.

In a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yusuph Olaniyonu, Saraki emphasized the role of the legislature in a young democracy like Nigeria is often misconstrued.

He stressed the necessity for the National Assembly to work towards positively influencing the lives of all Nigerians through its powers of lawmaking, oversight and advocacy.

Saraki urged leaders from all aspects “to make potent impact on Nigerians no matter the sacrifice required.”

“He wants them to put the interest of the public above personal and political interest and adopt pragmatic leadership strategies that will not only foster development, tranquillity and transform Nigeria, but will also leave indelible marks in the lives of Nigerians and their names will be written in the good books of Nigerians never to be expunged”, the statement added.

Saraki at the weekend said the Senate would soon meet with security chiefs over military action against members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, and their leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

He said the meeting would chart a path for resolution of contentious issues causing tension in the South-East and also address the skirmishes in Plateau and other states.

Saraki opined that the crises in the country were not unconnected to the economic challenges being faced by citizens.

“The tension in some parts of the country has its roots substantially in the economic situation.

“The nation should be assured that some of the legislative and executive actions taken to address the economic problems are beginning to yield fruits.

“This is why we recently witnessed the rebound of the economy and the exit of the country from recession,” he said.
