Member of the second and third republic National Assembly, and close associate to the self-acclaimed winner of the June 12 1993 Presidential election, M.K.O Abiola, Senator Anthony Adefuye has revealed what Vice Admiral Akhigbe told him concerning the death of Abiola.
In a interview with Punch, Adefuye said Akhigbe was called in immediately Abiola died.
He was responding to the question on whether Abiola’s last moment was actually captured in a tape.
The former lawmaker said, “No, I wasn’t privy to see him, but my friend, Vice Admiral Mike Akhigbe, told me this: he said when he came back from work that day, he was loosening his shoes when he had a phone call and he was told there was a problem.
“He said he asked what the problem was and they said Abiola was dead.
“He said he told them not to touch him or do anything and that he was on his way.
“He said when he got there, he asked them to call for Abiola’s personal doctors and that when they came, they handed over the body to do the post-mortem.
“They gave them a plane to fly anybody in from anywhere in the world, whom they trusted to ascertain the cause of death.
“He said he took that precaution until they said the cause of death was natural.
“But of course, we all know now that there are some poisons that can disappear in your body after being injected.
“Now we know such could not be traced no matter the test. But Akhigbe told me that story before he died. He said they certified that the death was natural.”
