What I discussed with Buhari – Ghana president-elect, Akufo-Addo

Ghanaian President-elect, Addo Nana Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has expressed confidence that the relationship between Nigeria and Ghana would deepen during his time as president.

Akufo-Addo, who met with President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday in Abuja behind closed doors, told State House correspondents that he came to Nigeria to introduce himself to President Buhari so they can begin to know each other.

The ‘change’ advocate said, “I came on a private visit to Lagos on Sunday to participate in The Future Awards Africa 2016 and I thought it is proper that I take that opportunity to come to Abuja to pay my respect to the President.

“I had the opportunity to say a belated happy birthday to the President. His birthday is an important day in my life because that day is my late mother’s birthday.

“We had a very good exchange. We are determined to grow the relationship between our two countries,’’ he added.

Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party, NPP, who is expected to take oath of office on January 7, 2017, defeated President John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress, NDC, polling 53.85 percent of total valid votes in the just concluded presidential election in the West African country.
