What Buhari should do to Danjuma, others – Ex-minister, Lame

A former Minister of Police Affairs, Dr. Ibrahim Yakubu, has described recent call by General Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma (retd) for Nigerians to rise and defend themselves from attacks by armed bandit as conspiracy against President Muhammadu Buhari and Nigerians.

General Danjuma had last Saturday at the maiden convocation ceremony of Taraba state university in Jalingo, the Taraba state capital, called on Nigerians to defend themselves against incessant attacks by rampaging herdsmen.

Lame called on the President Buhari-led government to place the retired general and others on serious security surveillance and get to the root of the matter.

He disclosed this while speaking to journalists in Bauchi, the Bauchi state capital, on Wednesday.

The former minister said that what Danjuma said was “an incitement and a call to anarchy”.

According to him, The timing and the venue of his statement at a convocation ceremony where there are young and agitated minds who may be motivated by his comment to take the laws into their hands.”

Lame also lamented the ‎former Defence chief’s allegation that the Nigerian military is aiding and abetting criminality.

He, therefore, called on the federal government to take appropriate action against not only General Danjuma but any other person promoting hatred and division among Nigerians.

The ex-minister also called on Northern leaders including political office holders, traditional rulers and all stakeholders to call an emergency meeting and take measures to‎ tackle challenges facing the North.

Lame said he was surprised “That despite General Danjuma’s closeness to president Muhammadu Buhari and his government, he chose to make the statement which was aimed at undermining the government.

He said that,“The north is being targeted for destruction from all fronts”, and that “what Danjuma said was just a tip of the iceberg”.
