President Muhammadu Buhari, on Monday, during a bilateral meeting with his US counterpart, Donald Trump, spoke on kidnapped Dapchi and Chibok girls being held by Boko Haram insurgents.
Trump after speaking on killings of Christians in Nigeria asked Buhari about what he had done with the issue of the kidnapped Nigerian girls.
Buhari in reaction said his government had not given up about their rescue, detailing the efforts of his administration to have them brought back.
He narrated to Trump how he was able to secure the release of girls abducted in Dapchi, Yobe State.
“Over 106 Dapchi girls were kidnapped, we rescued 100 while 4 were reported dead and 1 still in the captive of Boko Haram.
“We are grateful to the United Nations for its recommendation and assistance.
“We are doing all we can to secure the release of the remaining abducted schoolgirls from Dapchi and Chibok. In this context, we will continue to welcome US collaboration in intelligence gathering, hostage negotiations and information-sharing.”
