The President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration has come under attack for suspending the license of Daar Communication Plc, promoter of AIT, RAY POWER until further notice
DAILY POST reports that the Nigeria Broadcasting Commission (NBC) had on Thursday suspended the license of the media organization for failure to abide by the broadcasting code.
The Director-General of NBC, Modibbo Kawu, announced the development Thursday evening.
The development has since generated diverse reactions from Nigerians on social media.
Here are some comments gathered by DAILY POST from Twitter:
@Ogundamisi “NBC suspends AIT, Raypower’s licences indefinitely. IT has been reckless, inflammatory and acted like a station daring it’s regulators but revocation of licence shouldn’t be the most viable option.
“NBC should have let the court judge if that documentary was contempt of court.”
@Peluolajengbesi “Nigeria is sliding shamefully before the entire world into Democratic Dictatorship. AIT and RAY power shut down by Buhari’s government.”
@Beshajiameh “Nigeria is a completely messed country under Buhari administration who is trying to stifled opposition. What a next level of doom.”
@Emmanuelpopson “The next level is all about this. Any opposition is a threat to the incumbency. What a shame of our Democratic principles. Did Donald Trump do same to the media houses opposing his govt. Nigerians should condemn this totally.”
@Ojebutudollar “Welcome to Fulani Radio & next level of intimidation. The next development is Fulani TV while AIT and others will not work for the next years. What a Fulanizim!
@Alli_huncle “What broadcasting code has Ray Power broken? I bet a lot of Nigerians don’t care! To some of us, closing down Ray Power is political and a prove of Buhari dictatorship. Everything to many people is politics nowadays. Smh!
@Sirvic101 “Why on earth should NBC shut down AIT and RAY POWER? Is this the NextLevel we were promised? Full dictatorship? I cry for my country.“
@Chinendumemeh “The NBC have finally shut down AIR and RayPower. This too worrisome and must be condemned by Nigerians.”
