West Ham v Chelsea: Why Hazard didn’t perform well – Sarri

Chelsea boss, Maurizio Sarri, has explained why his star forward, Eden Hazard struggled in the Blues’ goalless draw with West Ham on Sunday.

Sarri said the Belgian found it difficult to thrive in the game because striker Olivier Giroud received little service.

Chelsea’s run of five consecutive victories was ended on Sunday following a stalemate at the London Stadium.

Giroud found it difficult to make an impact with the French striker touching the ball just 24 times.

He was replaced by Alvaro Morata in the 65th minute.

Hazard did not have many clear chances against a stubborn West Ham defence.

Asked if the Belgium international had more attacking intent against the Hammers, the Italian gaffer told Sky Sports, “Not in the first half. Better in the second half. It was very difficult to play inside.

“They were cutting off very well every kind of pass for Giroud. ‘We needed two wingers, I think.

“Hazard did very well in the last 25 minutes, more on the right than the left, but it was really very difficult today for the striker and it was very difficult for the two wingers.”
