Arsenal boss, Arsene Wenger, has called on the club’s supporters to show Cesc Fabregas “the respect he deserves” when he returns to the Emirates on Sunday.
The former Gunners captain joined Chelsea last summer from Barcelona and has become an important part of Jose Mourinho’s push for the title this season.
Fabregas has scored three times and provided 16 assists and will be hoping to take all three points against his former side, as they close in on the title.
“I want every player to be respected, and Cesc Fabregas when he comes to the Emirates on Sunday to be respected like he deserves,” Wenger said.
When asked if he regrets not exercising the first option to bring the Spaniard back to Arsenal, Wenger replied: “The regret I have is that he wanted to leave here.
“This club and myself had a very positive influence on Cesc’s life, so I would be a bit uncomfortable to have to justify today why he is not here.
“I believe I would rather it was the other way around.”
Fabregas played over 300 matches for the Gunners during his nine-year spell at the club.
