Wenger to continue with three-man defence next season

Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, is set to continue with a three-man defence in the 2017/2018 season.

Wenger ended last season playing three centre-backs and three main creative forwards. The move proved to be a masterstroke, as it ended a miserable run of seven defeats in 12 matches.

Arsenal won nine out of their 10 final games in their new 3-4-2-1 formation and went on to win the FA Cup.

The Gunners boss was especially encouraged by how his side defeated Antonio Conte’ Chelsea in the final at Wembley. Conte and Tottenham’s Mauricio Pochettino have been using the same three-man defence for most of the season.

Before that, Wenger had largely stuck with 4-4-2.

He is however preparing his players in pre-season, to begin with a three-man defence next season.

The manager wants the team to be more flexible next season and they will also go back to 4-2-3-1 during spells in training and matches.
