Wenger hints at new deal for Diaby

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, has said that Abou Diaby could get a pay-as-you-play deal to remain at the club.

The French midfielder has only made one first-team appearance for the Gunners and it came against Southampton in the League Cup last September.

Diaby has not played back-to-back games for the Premier League club in two years, but this week he returned to full training and played in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Brentford. His current deal runs out in the summer, but Wenger has suggested he could yet remain at the Emirates.

“By me, yes [a decision has been taken]. I had a chat with him and told him how I can envisage the future. He has to make a decision,” Wenger stated.

“Of course he understands completely that he has to perform and to show that he can be present on a consistent way.

“I will see where we go from there. I wouldn’t like to go into details, we have to meet again to see where we go from what I told him. It has to be linked a little bit with his presence.”
