A welder, Seun Ayeni, has been sentenced to life imprisonment by an Ondo State High Court sitting in Akure.
Ayeni was convicted by Justice Samuel Bola for raping a minor who happened to be his neighbour’s niece at Oke-Aro area of Akure, the Ondo state capital.
The convict, who was arrested by men of the Ondo State Police Command after forcefully having carnal knowledge of the thirteen year-old girl in 2017, was said to have lured the victim into his room, where he perpetrated the crime.
In his judgment, the trial judge, Justice Samuel Bola, ruled that the testimonies of the prosecution witnesses as well as the examination conducted by a medical doctor confirmed that the welder is guilty of the offence.
The court also stated that the prosecution had proved its case against the convict beyond reasonable doubt and thereby found him guilty of the offence.
However, during the trial, the convict denied raping the girl, saying the victim’s aunt wanted to implicate him as a result of a disagreement between them.
