The Senator representing Osun West senatorial district, Ademola Adeleke, who is also the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the September 22 governorship election in Osun State has vowed to resist any attempt by Aregbesola’s government to divert Paris Club refund.
He said the money, totalling N16.6 billion released to the Osun state government was meant for the payment of workers’ salary arrears, pensions, and gratuities in the state.
Adeleke said several billions of Naira have been released to the state in the past for the same purpose, but allegedly diverted by the government, saying workers and pensioners in the state have been subjected to serious agony in the last 34 months.
“Let me make it abundantly clear that the criminal diversion of this latest release will be resisted. The government officials who are directly or remotely connected with the application of this new release must ensure workers’ salaries, pensions and arrears are paid without further delay.
“We warn that any attempt to divert the fund for bogus contractor payments or for any electoral purposes will be resisted by our people.
”Every kobo from the refund must go to “settlement of outstanding salaries and employment of workers.
“If anything contrary is done in the handling of the fund, we will ensure full recovery of the last kobo once our government is voted into office. All those involved in such criminal diversion of the Paris refund or any other funds meant for the welfare of the workers and pensioners will be pursued, arrested and prosecuted”, Adeleke stressed.
The lawmaker, however, called on the workers to be vigilant, adding that he was resolute in his resolve to salvage the people of the state and bring solace.
” I, Senator Ademola Nurudeen Adeleke remain resolute in my commitment to bring succour to the hardworking members of Osun state workforce as well as the oppressed masses with the help of God Almighty”.
