The Executive Vice Chairman, EVC, Prof Umar Garba Danbatta, has pledged to collaborate with relevant stakeholders towards facilitating the use of broadband services in addressing key national challenges in health care, agriculture education and energy.
Danbatta made the pledge while delivering a lecture entitled “The role of ICT infrastructure in tertiary education in Nigeria –NCC Interventions” at the 46th Convocation of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN, Nsukka and was contained in a realease sent to DAILY POST.
He disclosed that the Commission was working towards supporting advances in tertiary education using Information Communication Technology, ICT, as the “base infrastructure to enable easier teaching approaches, farther reach for academic resources and better learning environment.”
The release reads in part: “Press, Ladies and Gentlemen, one of the new strategic vision and direction as enshrined in my 8-Point Agenda for the Commission for the years 2015 to 2020 is to facilitate strategic collaborations and partnerships with relevant non-state actors in ways that can advance the use of ICT for Development (ICT4Dev).
“This would promote and facilitate the use of ICT Infrastructure to access broadband services towards addressing key national challenges, in health care, agriculture, education, energy as well as improving delivery of other essentials. The process of integrating ICT in any organization must be well planned in order to achieve the desired results at affordable cost. In addition, a well-planned process is the springboard for developing funding proposals (internal, government, or international development agencies).
“Addressing the mind-set is probably the greatest challenge. Implementation of ICT should not be seen simply as an introduction of new technology, but a complete re-thinking of how the functions of the organization can be achieved. Success can only come when people are able and willing to change their working habits and thinking processes.
“It is therefore the goal of the Commission to support advances in tertiary education using ICT as the base infrastructure to enable easier teaching approaches, farther reach for academic resources and better learning environment. Tertiary institutions will leverage on ICT infrastructure to efficiently and effectively transform their traditional methods of teaching and learning.
“The Commission will continue to facilitate the improvement of the content delivery and capacity development of tertiary institutions staff and students respectively. As earlier mentioned, the use of ICT.”
