The Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, Prof. Umar Danbatta has said that the NCC will work harder to improve the quality of service in the telecom sector and by so doing improve the quality of consumer experience.
Danbatta stated this yesterday in Funtua, Katsina State at the Consumer Conversation, a forum organised by NCC as part of the YEAR OF THE NIGERIAN TELECOM CONSUMER campaign. He was represented by Adamu Amshi, Zonal Controller of Kano Office of the Commission.
The EVC told the audience that the Conversation and the declaration of 2017 as the Year of the Nigerian Telecom Consumer is instituted by NCC to create a dialogue on the challenges of the telecom consumers who are the lifeblood of the telecom industry.
Danbatta advised consumers to activate the Do Not Disturb (DND) 2442 code to curb incidences of unsolicited Short Message Services (SMS), and emphasized that NCC ensures the code is active in the Operators’ switch and monitored vigilantly to ensure compliance.
He also added that the 622 Toll Free Line is dedicated to the consumer by NCC to enable the escalation of grievances that may not have been addressed satisfactorily by the operators.
He requested the audience to participate actively in the Conversation and come up with suggestions that will assist NCC in its regulatory duties.
The event was attended by the Chairman of Funtua Local Government; Director National Orientation Agency, Katsina State; Representatives of His Eminence Sarkin Maska Hakimin Funtua; Director School of Remedial Studies; Heads of Department at Funtua LG secretariat; and Representatives of telecom companies who came to listen to and engage with consumer on their complaints.
A former Chairman of Funtua LGA, who was also a Commissioner of Information in the State, Alhaji Lawan Usman, was the Special Guest of Honour at the event.
