We will contest police order denying Makarfi access to PDP headquarters – Iwuanyanwu

Peoples’ Democratic Party chieftain, Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, has said the party will contest the seven-month-old police order barring Makarfi-led officers of the party from the PDP national secretariat through legal means.

He disclosed this when he spoke to PDP members and supporters in Abuja.

Iwuanyanwu, who described the police order as illegal, said that since the Supreme Court had ruled that the Ahmed Makarfi-led faction of the party is a legal part of the PDP, there is no reason why the order should continue to subsist.

He alleged that the continued denial of party officers the right to access the secretariat was a hidden agenda perpetuated by the opposition to keep the party in disarray and give the public an impression of fracas in the PDP ahead of the 2019 general elections.

He said: “And, I want to tell Nigerians; we in PDP are doing the right. But, I’m asking question; why should anybody prevent us from going to our headquarters?

“Why?

“We have to go to our office. We are going to use all legal processes to recover the use of our office.

“People say there is fracas. That is not true. It is the duty of the police to protect us. It’s just like somebody telling me don’t go to your house, because there is crisis caused by an upstart. Who has come to push you out of the house.

“So, I think the greatest thing we should do today is to take a decision to say: The order to tell us not to use our headquarters is illegal. The Supreme court has ruled on Ondo PDP primary election that we are legal part of the PDP. What are the reason then why we should not use the office?

“There is a hidden agenda. Part of the decision today is that we must go back to our office. So, we don’t give the impression of division.

“Zik, our great leader told us whenever we pass a difficult time we should remember his words: ‘Courage brothers! Do not tumble even if your star is as dark as night. There is a light that will guide the humble. Trust in God and do the right.’

“I’m telling PDP people gathered here today to trust in God and do the right. We are going to recover power. Trust in God and do right.”
