The newly rejuvenated Labour Party in Ondo State on Thursday said that the party has been repositioned and is poised to come out victorious in the coming general elections, adding that the party does not have any relationship with the governor of the state, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko
Governor Olusegun Mimiko was elected on the platform of the Labour Party before he defected to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in October this year.
Acting Chairman of the party, Mr. Kolawole Johnson, while addressing journalists in Akure, said the party had been repositioned irrespective of the exit of Dr. Mimiko, noting that the party remained the party of the people of Ondo State.
He said, “Our party is bigger than any individual because it is owned by the people and every contributor to our national purse with well articulated programmes that is centered on the people. This is the party of the masses built on sound democratic norms and best acceptable global practices.
“The reason for the short dull in activities in recent past in the state is to allow the party go through the necessary process of re-engineering and restructuring after the exit of the only governor on the platform.
“It gladdens our heart to inform you that the process is completed and it has produced a better platform that the people shall be proud of as you shall rightly testify as events unfold.
“Now, Labour Party is better repositioned to win elections in Ondo State with clearer focus, better strategies and renewed vigour. Our confidence stems from the cardinal agenda of the party which is people oriented and national in outlook.”
The acting chairman said the party is now stronger and available to every party member.
According to him, the party will feature candidates for all the elective positions come 2015 and that it is confident of overwhelming victory.
“Our forms are available in the state and every necessary arrangement has been put in place to guarantee a peaceful, objective, focused and crisis-free exercise.
“We also enjoin politicians to eschew violence and unholy vices in the coming election. There is no ambition that is worth the blood of Nigerians. We specially call on our law enforcement agencies to demonstrate professionalism and distinctively separate criminality from politicking. Enough of crimes in the name of politics,” he said.
