We were victimised for exposing corrupt persons to EFCC – VCN staff laments

One Mrs. Comfort Ebirim, a staff of Veterinary Council of Nigeria, on Thursday, lamented that some members of staff were being victimized for exposing corruption in the council.

The complainant, Ebirim, led in evidence by her counsel, Mr. Chika Ben, before the National Industrial Court, Abuja, made this known when she testified in a suit against the council.

According to her, the victimised staff exposed certain irregularities in the council to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

Ebirim said some workers were unduly oppressed by the council and its top officials for exposing those financial crimes.

Speaking further, she urged the court to prevail on the council to discontinue its alleged revengeful transfer of affected staff, insisting that she had been punitively transferred to Enugu.

Ebirim further prayed the court to prevail on the council to desist from establishing a Veterinary College in Kubwa, a premise meant originally as staff quarters.

She sued the council and joined the Minister of Agriculture, Chief Executive Officer, President of the Council and Secretary, Investigation and Disciplinary Committee as co-defendants.

She said that the move by the council was to ultimately infringe on employees’ rights by forcefully pushing the staff out of the quarters, mostly for testifying to the EFCC.

The chief judge, Justice Ebeye Isele, adjourned the case till April 12 after due considerations.
