We’ve deployed over 1,000 police operatives for Obudu bye-election – Cross River CP

The Police in Cross River State have deployed over 1,000 police men and women to Obudu local government area of the state to maintain peace and order during the August 11 2018 bye-election in the area.

Four political parties, African Democratic Congress (ADC), All Progressives Congress (APC), Mega Party of Nigeria (MPN) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are fielding candidates for the election.

The bye-election came as a result of the vacancy created in the House of Assembly following the death of the member representing Obudu state constituency, late Stephen Ukpukpen.

The State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Inuwa Hafiz told DAILY POST in Calabar that over 1,000 police operatives were deployed to the area.

“We have deployed over 1, 000 policemen and women. These are police officers posted there and from our estimates, there will be nothing less than eight Police men in every polling unit.

“While we put eight police men is to provide enough security for eligible voters to come and exercise their franchise free without any harassment or intimidation from anybody.

“We also call on member of the public to know that, immediately after voting, they should leave the area.

“We don’t want any poling unit to be congested, police and other security organization will never participate in counting or voting. We will never be part of it. Ours is only to provide security.

“Any criminal that is coming with intent to put trouble or to harass or intimidate anybody would be dealt with,” he stated.
