We secured 50 convictions in 2017 – NDLEA

Fifty people were convicted by the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt over abuse of drugs in Rivers State in 2017.

This was disclosed by the Rivers State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA.

The fifty convictions followed the arrest of two hundred and eighty two suspected drug offenders in the year in review, out of which 240 are males, while 42 are females.

The NDLEA in a statement said over 361 kilograms of hard drugs and banned substances including, cocaine, heroin, cannabis sativa, Tramadol, codeine and other psychotropic substances were seized from the suspects.

The statement, which was signed by the Public Relations officer of the state command of the NDLEA, Emmanuel Ogbumgbada also noted that, “forty two drug dependent persons were rehabilitated and reintegrated with their families.”

The statement also quoted the state commander of the NDLEA, Rachel Shelling as advising parents to pay close attention to their children and wards.
