We need a vibrant Minister – Benue elites beg Buhari

As politicking and lobbying for appointments continue to gather momentum around the Presidency, a group of Benue elites have advised President Muhammadu Buhari to appoint only vibrant and dynamic people in his cabinet.

The group, under the aegis of Benue Elites Development Network, said the idea of recycling old hands who have little or nothing to contribute to the socio-economic development of the society should be discouraged.

Comprising of lawyers, medical and media practitioners, engineers and successful business moguls, the group told newsmen in Abuja on Tuesday that Benue could no longer afford to bench her first eleven, while some old hands were being recycled.

Engr. Onoja Sunday Ugwu, who spoke on behalf of the forum, said arrangements were underway to lead a delegation to President Buhari, to register the decision of Benue people.

Ugwu said the state will file behind “a young and vibrant entrepreneur and great Humanitarian, Chief Philip Agbese” as a better nominee for ministerial appointment.

He said the forum was happy that President Buhari has promised “an all-inclusive and youth oriented administration in the Next-Level Project”, urging him not to renege on it.

“In this regard, we the representatives and the bridge between the young and the elderly from Benue state have nominated High Chief Philip Agbese, the Okanga k’Agila to be appointed as the Minister from Benue state.

“This is because of his dynamism and intellectual prowess to deliver on all assignments given to him”, Ugwu said.

He expressed optimism that the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) has a rewarding system for those who have electoral values and are hardworking and loyal to the party.

Ugwu said Benue elites had earlier recognized Agbese with the award of ‘Icon of Greater Nigeria’, for being a great Philanthropist and having contributed greatly to educational development and humanitarian services in Benue and beyond.

The forum said it would continue to consult with political and opinion leaders, as well as youth bodies and women leaders, to ensure Benue is adequately represented in Buhari’s government at various capacities.
