A retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Mr Felix Ogbaudu, has described as “misplaced’’, recent calls by some Nigerians for restructuring of the country.
Speaking in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Monday, Ogbaudu said that the time was yet ripe to restructure the country.
He said that rather than calling for restructure, stakeholders should come up with solutions for the mirage of problems facing the nation.
Ogbaudu said that Nigeria was faced with corruption and other problems, adding that concerted effort was needed to chart a way forward.
“Restructuring Nigeria is not the solution; we need to address the problems facing us as a nation.
“ If Americans can accept a Kenyan as president, you know what that means.
“When President Barack Obama came into office, I was asking Americans, black and white, what they felt about a black man ruling them.
“They said they didn’t care where the senator came from but that they needed somebody who could tackle their problems.
“That should be the attitude in this country,’’ he said.
According to Ogbaudu, if Nigerians will harness the potential in all the states of the federation, there will be no feeling of marginalisation by any part of the country.
He said, “God blessed us with a lot of resources to sustain us and to make life meaningful and comfortable for the average Nigerian.
“The level of corruption is too much, primitive acquisition of wealth. What do people do with billions of Naira?
“So, the structure of this country is not our problem at all.’’ (NAN)
