We must respect the party’s supremacy always – Oshiomhole

Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State has noted that since elected government officials ran and won elections on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, it behooves them to respect the supremacy of the party in their activities.

He made this known to journalists in Abuja shortly after the National Executive Committee, NEC, meeting of the party held at its national secretariat. He stressed that those who expected the meeting to end up in disagreement must have been disappointed as the entire proceedings were peaceful.

According to him, “Like in every human society, you are bound to have divergent views and that is we are in a democracy. We are not perfect because we are humans; we recognize our limits and work to overcome those imperfections.

“In all cases, we all uphold the supremacy of the party. For the fact that he (President Buhari) has left the villa to the party office to attend the NEC meeting is his own practical demonstration of the superiority of the party because all of us, the President inclusive ran our election on the platform of this party and Nigerians are expecting that the party will work as a united family so that we can deliver the promise of change,” Oshiomhole averred.

Speaking on what transpired at the closed-door meeting, the Governor said: “The president had a comprehensive review of where we got to today and he acknowledges all the struggles and contributions made by other groups and at the end of the day God has crowned our efforts with victory.

“We had a very interesting conversation and recognized that starting off is not easy. We have firm confidence in the way the President has provided leadership for the country, we see him not just as the President of the country but as the father of everybody and this is not because of his position but for his age and experience and so we all pledge to be loyal, dedicated and to speak out and ensure that in all he those he has the support of members of NEC.

“I feel that we are leaving this place much more stronger than we entered, I know that there are those expecting that people are going to throw chairs and all of that but the good thing about democracy is that it allows even the fool to be foolish and the intelligent to show himself but at the end of the day the process of conversation will help everyone to buy into a common position which will now become the basis of doing business of going forward.

“I think I am satisfied with the outcome of the meeting and particularly happy that those who want us to come out with long faces are put to shame, this party has come to stay. After all, we are APC, when we take the drugs, we must cure the evil,” Oshiomhole stated.
