The Nigeria Intervention Movement, NIM, has stated that its merger with the Alliance for New Nigeria will not stop it from supporting candidates of other parties for the governorship elections to be conducted this year in Ekiti and Osun states.
Only yesterday, the NIM adopted ANN as the political structure it would use to contest the 2019 general elections.
It had earlier said it will determine the winner of the July 14 gubernatorial election in Ekiti state by engaging candidates and throwing its support behind a preferred candidate.
But speaking with DAILY POST on the possibility of its merger with the ANN affecting who gets its support for the governorship elections to be conducted before next year, the NIM national secretary, Prof. Anthony Kila, said the alliance is for the 2019 elections.
He said, “The alliance doesn’t mean that whoever is the candidate of the ANN for the Ekiti and Osun governorship elections gets the NIM support. NIM will indicate a candidate to support in the Ekiti election because the Ekiti plan is 2018. The NIM agreement is for 2019. The agreement doesn’t cover the elections in Ekiti and Osun to be held this year.”
