Coach Manu Garba has said that Nigeria’s U-20 team’s defensive errors against Brazil cost them, as they were beaten 4-2 in their opening game.
Flor Da Silva scored in each half, while Gabriel Jesus and Boschilla Gabriel also registered their names on the scoreheet, as the South Americans overpowered the Flying Eagles once again.
Gabriel opened scoring as early as the 4th minute, before Nigeria replied with two goals from Isaac Success and Musa Yahaya.
But they eventually collapsed to the superior firepower of the Brazilians.
The former Golden Eaglets’ handler, rued his side’s mistakes afterwards, but congratulated the South Americans.
“It’s a huge disappointment. We carved out the better chances in the first half and we should have led at the break,” Manu said at a post-match conference.
“The first 45 minutes reflected what we’re capable of. We simply made two mistakes that cost us dearly in the second period.
“All in all we played our part in a really great match and I’d like to congratulate Brazil on their victory; they’re a very good team.”
Manu Garba will lead his team out against Korea DPR in their second group game on Thursday. The Asians were thrashed 5-1 by Hungary in their first match on Monday.
