We inherited 700,000 metering gap – EEDC

The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, EEDC, has said the company inherited a metering gap of about 700,000 customers‎.

The company said it would need N80billion to procure meters for its customers in the South-East zone.

The company said it had already spent N10billion in metering its customers to ensure accuracy and exact billing

The Company’s head of communitcation, Mr Emeka Eze stated this in Awka during a town hall meeting with customers of the company.

Eze said “Even as I speak to you, we are still distributing meters. We are doing it feeder by feeder, and that it has not gotten to you does not mean that we are not distributing.

“We will continue to do so until it goes round. We only urge our customers to go online and apply and not to give money to anyone as the metres are not for sale.”

Earlier, Mr Samuel Onuoha, the company’s network manager explained to customers that metres ordered by the company had arrived the country and a fresh phase of distribution would start soon.

He also assured that newly installed transformer at the company’s transmission station would soon be powered, and that it would boost the availability of power especially with the improvement in power generation.

“We now generate 7,000 megawatts of electricity, but the problem we have is distribution.

“Problems associated with estimated bills would be over soon too. We only implore you to bear with us a little more,” he said.
