UEFA have stated that they don’t have any issues with Cuneyt Cakir, following the controversial sending off of Manchester United winger, Nani, as the English side were dumped of the Champions League.
The Portuguese, was sent off after catching Alvaro Arbeloa, in the second half of the match played at Old Trafford, with the home side leading 1-0. Real Madrid went on to win the tie 2-1 and progressed to the quarter-finals, thanks to a 3-2 aggregate.
Despite the criticisms that have greeted Cakir’s action, UEFA say that are solidly behind him.
“We have no problem with him,” a spokesman told The Guardian. “There are no issues for us regarding the sending off.
“We will wait for the official reports of the match delegate and the referee’s observer, as is procedure. If they raise concerns then we will act.
“He remains on our list of officials.”
