The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) has said it has shutdown about 500 petrol stations nationwide for various malpractices.
This revelation was made by the Director of the agency, Mr Osten Olorunsola while briefing newsmen in Abuja.
He vowed that the DPR would leave no stone unturned in order to ensure sanity in the oil industry.
Olorunsola said, “Some of them engaged in under-delivery, diverting of products, and others were selling above the N97 benchmark” he said.
“We have to do our work because they are not going by our standards, but if they come back and promise to be good boys again we let them open.”
The DPR boss further warned oil marketers from short-changing consumers as such act would be dealt with accordingly.
“If we shut you down but continue to do the illegality, the next thing is to withdraw your licence but for those that engage in adulteration we hand them over to law enforcement agents for prosecution,” said the DPR boss.
