The leadership of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Benue State has distanced itself from a faceless body parading itself as APC Renewal Group in Benue State, saying that such group is not associated with the party.
The party was reacting to a statement making the rounds in the media, which quoted the APC as slamming its senatorial candidate in Benue South in the just concluded election, Comrade Dan Onjeh over his alleged ‘constant attacks’ on the senate president, David Mark.
The group in a statement issued by a certain Ogah A. Ogah, quoted APC as saying that “As a party embarking on mass appeal for greater membership even after elections at all levels, this is not the time to embark on unnecessary exchanges with statesmen like Sen. Mark. The APC needs people in zone c of Benue state. We are yet to make valuable in-roads to that enclave,” the group said.
Reacting to the statement, James Terse Okum, a top chieftain of the party in Benue State told DAILY POST on Sunday that such group does not exist in the state or within the party’s corridors.
“APC Renewal Group in Benue? Are you kidding me? I’ve only heard of Afenifere Renewal Group in the southwest region. I can tell you authoritatively that such group does not exist. Our party has nothing to do with such group.
“We know the best way to rebuke any of our members who throws caution to the wind. Not on the pages on newspapers.
“Our candidate, Dan Onjeh who was clearly robbed in the just concluded election has every right to air his views on issues bothering on the society without being restricted. I think the people championing the ghost group should get a life and stop denting the hard-earned name and reputation of APC”, the party man strongly.
