We don’t have much left to spend – Guardiola admits after £200m summer spree

Manchester City, Pep Guardiola, has admitted his budget for a new defender has been reduced by the money they have spent on other new players.

Guardiola has been unsuccessful in pursuits of Southampton’s Virgil van Dijk and Juventus’ Leonardo Bonucci, as he hopes to add a big-money centre back to his squad.

Youngster Tosin Adarabioyo signed a new City contract earlier this summer, but does not appear to be in the Spaniard’s plans for the new season, leaving Nicolas Otamendi, Vincent Kompany and John Stones as the only senior options.

Guardiola has already spent over £200m this summer.

“We are going to see,” he said.

“We don’t have too much to spend more. We spent a lot because we didn’t have a lot of guys. The market is so so expensive in the last years, but we are going to see, we are going to see if we need somebody else, and if the market gives us a chance we are going to try. But if we don’t we will go with those guys, but we are going to see.”
