The Lagos State Police Command has said it was not in a hurry to bury the Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP, Osung Ekpo, who died in a swimming pool while celebrating the St. Valentine’s Day with some of his friends.

It would be recalled that Ekpo died in a swimming pool of a popular hotel, La Avalon, in Ajah area of the state while hanging out with some of his friends on the said day.

Until his death, he was in charge of the Area ‘K’ Command, Morogbo, Badagry, Lagos.

In a chat with The Punch, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Dolapo Badmos, said no one in the hotel was suspected or arrested, adding that it is not in a hurry to release the corpse to the family for burial as it is still awaiting the autopsy result.

She said, “If someone dies in active service, there are steps to follow. He was a senior police officer; he was an ACP, and nobody can hurriedly bury him. We will give him a befitting burial.

“It is not true that we arrested the hotel manager. The hotel has also not been sealed off. Except maybe the hoteliers decided to close to mourn him.

“We also do not have a report that he was with female guests. The situation was that the ACP was an active man. I jog every morning too. He used to swim, and he did it in the hotel for years. Maybe his health failed him on that day,” Badmos said.

She added that Ekpo was a senior police officer, hence due process must be followed before he is laid to rest.
