The national leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Asiwaju Tinubu has revealed that the party had to beg its candidate for the February 14 presidential election, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari to vie for the seat.
Tinubu disclosed that Buhari was initially reluctant to run for the election.
The ex Lagos State governor stated this during the presidential rally of the party in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital on Tuesday.
The delegation was led by the presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari, along with his running mate, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo.
Speaking during the rally, Tinubu who was clad in a flowing Agbaba bearing the logo of the party with a broom in his hand said, “We begged Muhammadu Buhari to contest again”.
He added: “Nigeria is challenged and we present to you a great leader who has the ability to think.
“Buhari is the man that can deliver because he is honest, he has integrity.”
Speaking, Buhari reiterated his commitment to restoring security, power supply and infrastructure.
“Certificates from Nigerian universities must be respected throughout the world,” he said.
Others present at the rally include the party’s National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and a former Governor of Osun State, Chief Bisi Akande.
Hajia Aisha Buhari and Dolapo Osinbajo, the wives of the presidential and vice presidential candidates, were also present.
The day kicked off with a courtesy visit to the palace of the Alake of Egbaland and then proceeded to the Moshood Abiola Stadium, where party dignitaries addressed the mammoth crowd. .
